About Suresh Sundaram

Suresh Sundaram is the founder of Sundaram Pottery in Lexington, Massachusetts, where he makes functional stoneware and alternatively fired pottery. He formulates and mixes his own clay bodies and glazes, drawing on his background in chemical engineering to explore the interaction of materials, form, color, and firing.

Suresh began studying pottery through classes at Mudflat and MIT. In 2019, he met raku potter Richard Foye at the New Hampshire League of Craftsmen’s annual show and subsequently studied raku techniques with him. In the summer of 2024, he spent several weeks in Seoul, South Korea, working one-on-one with potter Kim Yun Sam.

His work combines traditional making techniques with an experimental approach to materials and firing, particularly raku, saggar, and pit firing. He also created PowerGLAZE, a free web-based tool that helps potters reformulate glaze recipes when ceramic materials become unavailable or need to be substituted.
